The interactive course will touch on the fundamentals of the core, upper and lower body shaping, stretching, taping techniques, and return to sport after rehab. There will be a hands-on taping lab portion, where you will get a chance to try out some of the most effective taping techniques with gymnasts. We will take a biomechanical approach to loading the upper and lower body in gymnastics and address ways, even with beginners, to bullet proof them early when teaching shapes and loading. We will touch on nuerodynamic or “kinesiological” stretching along with other stretching methods to improve flexibility. The course will include ideas of how to incorporate prevention in the gym based on motor learning to get the greatest effects and carry over of corrective exercises. We will discuss return to sport after rehab based on tissue healing and addressing skill selection for common injuries. You will go home with an extensive plan of how to bullet proof your athletes.

Raising the Bar
Mentally re-thinking our approach to teaching on this apparatus. Like any Olympic event there’s a preconception of what should be accomplished on bars. Many of us are in that mindset of competitive gymnastics and we miss the opportunity to see the bar as a completely different animal. Nothing will push a student out the door of our gyms faster than creating a scenario where we frighten them with difficulty or disappoint them with rushing them into skills they were not ready for.

Core Conditioning for Shapes
Core strength and stability is the #1 thing we as coaches need to develop and maintain. We address the frontal abs with great detail with exercises such as leg lifts, but do not work (on the whole) the side obliques. This example will be addressed with amny others with a robust lecture complet with video and full explanation on what to expect. In a 2-part lecture (both presented), you will have more exercises than you need to improve the core strength of your athletes!
